Former Principal, Northzone; Angel Investor
Northzone (Web3)Check size: No current personal angel check range is public. Historical Northzone deals ranged from pre-seed through growth, but firm-level third-party range estimates do not establish Deepka's present allocation. Founders should ask directly about current angel activity and should use Northzone's live team for fund pitches.
At Northzone, Deepka focused on product-led consumer and B2B software, with a particularly developed Future of Work thesis. She argued that structurally scarce frontline labor and obsolete tools create room for vertical systems of record spanning HR, scheduling, payroll and operational insight. Her Sona work shows a preference for multi-module products that expand from a sharp wedge, serve multiple verticals and demonstrate exceptional execution. Kota reflects a related interest in rebuilding regulated employee-benefits infrastructure. Her current personal activity includes occasional angel investments and hands-on experimentation with AI automation, but a new formal mandate is not yet public.
Exceptional teams on consequential missions; ambitious founders with deep problem knowledge; overlooked workforces and industries; products that become operational systems of record; multi-module expansion grounded in customer need; category-defining potential; fast product learning; strong early usage or revenue; and a clear reason a company can compound from initial workflow to platform.
No current angel pass criteria are published. Her historical work implies skepticism toward shallow horizontal features, Future of Work products with no system-of-record path, generic AI wrappers without durable workflow access, benefits products that ignore regulation and carrier integration, and teams lacking the resilience to navigate long sales or category creation. These are inferred from published deal work, not a personal blacklist.
Confirm that Deepka is actively considering new angel opportunities before treating her as available. Lead with the mission, the overlooked user and a concrete workflow. Show why the initial product can become a system of record or infrastructure layer, evidence of product pull, expansion logic, regulatory and integration constraints, and the founders' distinctive insight. For workforce products, quantify labor scarcity, operational cost, employee outcomes and buyer ROI. Do not send a Northzone fund pitch to her; use the firm's current roster.
Assess whether the product can own core operational data and workflows across scheduling, HR, payroll and insight rather than remaining a narrow point solution.
Quantify how demographic and skills shortages create enduring willingness to adopt tools that improve acquisition, retention, productivity or training.
Require evidence that adjacent modules share data, buyer, workflow and distribution so product breadth compounds value rather than diluting focus.
Show the real recurring work an agent owns end to end, the permissions and data it needs, the human escalation path and the measurable time or outcome improvement.
Separate an investor's valuable historical thesis from current authority; verify angel appetite and check size directly and route fund opportunities to the live roster.
Rana confirms her Northzone departure, ongoing personal AI experimentation and occasional angel investment activity while leaving her next formal role open.
A durable frontline platform should become the multi-functional system of record for workforce operations, while improving both business efficiency and employee experience.
Structural labor shortages and weak technology across the talent value chain create an opportunity for purpose-built products serving the enormous deskless and frontline workforce.
