Board Partner
First Round CapitalCheck size: No current personal check range or new-investment authority is published. Steven's official Board Partner profile emphasizes operational and board support; First Round's firm-wide check range should not be attributed to him personally.
Steven helps companies make consequential decisions quickly despite incomplete information, test the result in the real world, and learn with a beginner's mindset. His operating history spans founding, three CEO roles, product, general management, business development, sales, strategy, acquisitions, IPO-scale growth, and public boards, making his current lens broadly operational rather than a published new-investment thesis.
Impactful companies with meaningful growth opportunities and leaders willing to test decisions in the market, learn from errors, and retain a beginner's mindset. His Outright experience highlights the leverage of choosing a clear customer segment and concentrating execution around it.
No personal pass list is published. His stated method implies resistance to waiting for perfect information, searching for a single magic growth tactic, refusing to test assumptions, or repeating mistakes without updating. A generic new-investment pitch would also misread his current Board Partner role.
Treat Steven as an operating and board resource, not a verified active First Round check-writer. Bring a consequential decision, the facts available now, the cost of delay, the fastest safe real-world test, success and failure signals, and what you will learn either way. For growth questions, make the target customer segment and current bottleneck explicit.
With incomplete information, make the best bounded decision available, define a real-world test, observe the outcome quickly, and update rather than waiting for certainty.
Treat mistakes as inputs: state the failed assumption, separate execution noise from thesis error, and change the next test without defending the old plan.
Choose a clear customer segment, align product and go-to-market around its most important need, and resist diffuse growth until the focused motion produces evidence.
