First Round CapitalCheck size: Firm-level: First Round says initial investments typically range from $1M-$7M, average about $3.5M, and have ranged below and above that; participating rounds have ranged from $100K-$20M.
Nyle is a generalist early-stage investor focused on the 'imagine if' stage, when visionary founders use technology as leverage to reshape how the world works. His technologist and finance training, earlier AI-startup operating exposure, and investments at NEA suggest particular fluency in AI, enterprise software, developer-facing products, and fintech, while First Round explicitly remains sector-agnostic.
Visionary, technically ambitious founders who defy expectations and can make an 'imagine if' future credible. At the firm level, First Round also looks for contrarian insight, an innovative and resilient founding team, early signs of customer passion, creative go-to-market thinking, and a market worth winning.
No personal pass criteria are public. Firm-level mismatches include later Series B/C rounds, direct conflicts with an existing portfolio company, companies that have already raised more than several million dollars, and teams without a distinctive insight or founder advantage.
Start with the 'imagine if' future and the hard-earned insight that makes it possible now. Then show the technical substance, founder-market advantage, early evidence, market size, and the path from a surprising premise to a durable company. Nyle is a generalist, so a clear account of how the technology creates real leverage matters more than forcing category fit.
Describe the future that becomes possible if the company succeeds, then connect that ambitious vision to the technical insight, founder capability, and earliest proof that make it more than speculation.
